Emmerdale star Emma Atkins has revealed that Jai Sharma’s baby secret is likely to remain in the dark for some time. Warning: Spoiler Alert!

The 37-year-old actress, who plays the part of Charity on the popular soap, explained that her character still has no idea that husband Jai (Chris Bisson) is the father of Rachel Breckle's baby son Archie.

Speaking to This Morning, Atkins said: "The fact that it's all been going on under her nose without her knowing will be the biggest shock. Charity's one of those people… if there's digging to do or detective work, she'll do it really well, because she's quite conniving in that way.

"But the fact that he's been leading this double life under her nose is going to have a huge impact on her, I think."

Asked when fans can expect the big reveal, Atkins added: "Well, the storyliners, I think they're going to keep it going for a while. It's quite interesting for the audience to see someone having two lives."

In tonight's hour-long episode of Emmerdale, Charity and Home Farm business man Declan Macey (Jason Merrells) engage in a romantic fling.

Atkins added: "It's a weird circle, because you've got two marriages which are both going wrong in their own dysfunctional ways. Then you've got two people within either marriage coming together in a frisson. It's very odd.

"In real life, it would be the most disgusting set-up. But it's the most wonderful thing to play, because you're experimenting with the way you'd feel in that particular situation. For Charity, she's done it before, hasn't she? Many times!

"She also has history with Declan, which is why I think the audience will really like it - because it's Jai's best friend."

Emmerdale airs tonight at 6.45pm on UTV and 7pm on TV3.
