The Impossible actor Ewan McGregor has said that he would be interested in starring in a Star Wars spinoff based on Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Disney announced recently that a number of new films, in addition to JJ Abram’s Episode 7, will be released set in the Star Wars universe.

McGregor told MTV News: "I think it's a good idea. The only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, Episode III, before Alec Guinness, there's that period where he's in the desert."

He suggested that the plot could be centred around how Obi-Wan Kenobi survived on Tatooine before he met Luke Skywalker in A New Hope.

He said: "That might be my window, there, to tell that story. I don't know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff!"

The actor added: "Could be quite exciting. I'd be up for it, for sure, of course!"
