Stream provider Netflix today break new ground in telly-viewing by launching the entire first season of US political drama House of Cards.

Subscribers to Netflix will be able to access all 13 episodes of the show – an adaptation of a BBC miniseries of the same name – that stars Kevin Spacey as Frank Underwood, a ruthless politician with his eye on The White House.

Robin Wright stars as Underwood’s wife Claire, while Kate Mara plays the part of Zoe Barnes, a bright and determined political journalist.

Kevin Spacey, who also produced House of Cards, says: "What a company like Netflix is doing is the ultimate expression of individual control, proof of what people's attention span really is."

Netflix are clearly looking to expand their range of new programming as season four of cult US comedy Arrested Development – starring Jason Bateman - is expected in early May.
