Bradley Cooper has expressed his interest in playing the lead role in the forthcoming biopic of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong.

Star Trek Into Darkness director JJ Abrams' Bad Robot Productions has acquired the rights to Juliet Macur's soon-to-be-released book, Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong.

Speaking at the Producers' Guild Awards about who he thinks should portray Armstrong, Abrams said: "[Bradley] Cooper sent me an email and we've been talking."

Cooper has made it no secret that he would like to play Armstrong, calling him a "fascinating character".
