David Boreanaz has revealed that he considered quitting the Fox series Bones.
Last June, the actor, who plays the lead character Seeley Booth in the comedy crime drama, referred to the show's eighth season as a "farewell tour".
Boreanaz has now said that he weighted up his future when his old Bones contract expired at the end of the last season.
He told TVLine: "My contract was up . . . so I had opportunities to go into some new areas.
"But the producers and I came together and found a happy medium. We sat and talked hard about the character development, and I'm excited."
The former Buffy star explained that the new ninth season of Bones will focus on Booth's "health problems".
He explained: "We've never really focused on the hardcore truth of what Booth goes through on an everyday basis. His health problems may come to fruition [and] there might be a traumatic experience that he's got to deal with."
