The British Comedy Awards presented by Jonathan Ross took place in London last night with Peter Capaldi named as Best TV Comedy Actor for his role as spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It.

His co-star Rebecca Front who plays politician Nicola Murray in the popular BBC 2 satire took home the prize for Best TV actress.

There was a special award for Outstanding Achievement for Ali G star Sacha Baron Cohen while Charlie Brooker was named Best Comedy Entertainment Personality. The prize for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme was won by Harry Hill for his TV Burp show.

In the category for Best Sitcom, The Thick of It, Rev and Twenty Twelve were all beaten by Julia Davis’s Sky show Hunderby. It was also named as Best New Comedy Programme.
