Johnny Depp and Disney have joined forces for a Don Quixote film.

The actor is set to produce the modern-day update of the classic novel through Infinitum Nihil, the company he heads with his sister Christi Dembrowski, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The project is still in the early stages, and the pitch for the untitled film will be written by Steve Pink and Jeff Morris.

Miguel de Cervantes's 17th-century novel Don Quixote tells the tale of a minor nobleman who becomes convinced that he is a knight errant.

With his foolish squire Sancho Panza, he embarks on a series of misadventures.

Depp was previously attached to a Terry Gilliam film about the hero on a mission to revive chivalry, but the project never got off the ground.

The 49-year-old actor recently wrapped The Lone Ranger for Disney.
