President Michael D. Higgins was presented with a copy of author Marcus Connaughton’s new book about Rory Gallagher at Áras an Uachtaráin last night.

Music veteran and RTÉ producer Connaughton was accompanied by another Irish music legend - Larry Gogan - when he met the President in the library of Áras an Uachtaráin to give him a copy of Rory Gallagher: His Life and Times which has just been published by Cork-based imprint the Collins Press.

No stranger to rock `n’ roll, President Higgins also made sure that his framed photo of Rory with Phil Lynott had pride of place during the presentation. The photo is usually in the President’s study and it can be seen in the background of our picture.

Speaking about his book, published 17 years after Rory’s sad passing, Connaughton said: "I wanted to make sure it was the most personal insight yet into the life and music of one of the greatest guitarists the world has seen.

"So this features exclusive interviews with many of Rory’s contemporaries, including the multi-award-winning filmmaker Tony Palmer, Rory’s Taste band mate John Wilson and U2’s world-renowned sound engineer Joe O’Herlihy."

The book features many never-before-seen photographs and insights into Gallagher’ s life from people who knew him from childhood to his passing in 1995.
