A new Jimi Hendrix album is to be released in 2013 - almost 43 years after the legendary guitarist's death.

The news was announced on the legendary musician's website.

Entitled People, Hell and Angels, the album will contain 12 previously unreleased tracks recorded in 1968/69 and will be available from March 5th.

Hendrix recorded the songs during a break from his band, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, as he considered a new, experimental directions for his follow-up to Electric Ladyland.

He played keyboards, percussion and a second guitar on the album.

Jimi Hendrix was just 27 when he died in his sleep from drug-related asphyxia in September 1970.
