To mark the 60th anniversary of the Arts Council, RTÉ Television's The Works is to premiere four short films, beginning this Thursday, November 22.

The Arts Council is staging a series of exhibitions called Into the Light: The Arts Council - 60 Years of Supporting the Arts around the country and the Council and RTÉ have supported the making of these short films "which respond creatively to the Arts Council collection".

The films will be shown on The Works on RTÉ One on Thursday November 22 and Thursday November 29.

They are:

Variations on a Collection
A short introduction to the Arts Council collection, featuring contributions and insights from one of Ireland's most celebrated artists, Dorothy Cross. Directed by James Kelly.

The Nettle Coat
An evocative and thoughtful short film which reflects the public's response to one work from the collection: Alice Maher's Nettle Coat. By Pat Collins and Sharon Whooley.

A mini documentary following artist Karl Burke during the development of his new work at Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane. By Tadhg O'Sullivan.

A Prevailing Wind
Celebrating six decades of the arts in music, art and film. By Ian Cudmore, Alan Kavanagh and Donal Dineen.

Into the Light: The Arts Council - 60 Years of Supporting the Arts will run concurrently at the following venues: Dublin City Gallery, The Hugh Lane (from November 28); Limerick City Gallery of Art (from November 30); Crawford Art Gallery, Cork (from December 5); The Model, Sligo (from December 7).
