Telling the remarkable and long-classified true story of events during the Iran hostage crisis of 1979, Argo is actor-director Ben Affleck's most ambitious film to date. And his best.
It is, essentially, three films in one - a political thriller, a Hollywood satire and a race against time - and Affleck locks the three together into a gritty-yet-graceful whole.
The movie also boasts a superb supporting cast, with Bryan Cranston playing Jack O'Donnell, the CIA boss of Affleck's real-life agent Tony Mendez; and John Goodman playing John Chambers, the real-life Oscar-winning make-up artist who was also a CIA operative.
