Olympic athlete Victoria Pendleton had a less than stellar debut on the Strictly dance floor, landing at the bottom of the leaderboard last night.

The 32 year-old retired track cyclist was left in tears following her performance with partner Brendan Cole that landed her at the bottom of the group who danced last night. Nerves got the better of the athlete which resulted in some technical errors in the routine that the judges picked up on.

Cole and Pendleton wore matching pink outfits as they danced to Kylie Minogue's 'Spinning Around'

New judge Darcey Bussell gave Pendleton some encouragement, saying the performance was "so impressive, there was so much dance there". Bussell gave her some advice for het next routines, saying "One thing that I think will help you, wear a smaller heel".

Six of the 14 contestants made their Dancing debut last night including Fern Britton, Nicky Byrne, Colin Salmon, Michael Vaughn and Denise Van Outen.

Byrne danced with new professional to the show Karen Hauer but both came under fire

Former Westlife member Nicky Byrne danced for the public with new professional dancer on the show, Karen Hauer, however the pair seemingly broke the rules. "There was a life in this dance, there shouldn't be in a ballroom waltz" judge Craig Revel Horwood angrily announced, before adding "you will be marked severely down. You'll have your chance in American smooth for lifts... I wish you'd give Nicky a chance". The pair managed to achieve second last place on the leaderboard.

Denis Van Outen, who danced last, managed to shoot to the top of the table with her performance

The rest of the contestants will take to the dance floor for tonight's show, though no one will leave this weekend as their scores will roll over to next weekend's results show.
