The BBC has confirmed that Westlife singer Nicky Byrne will be among the contestants on the new series of Strictly Come Dancing, which begins next week.
A tweet on the show's official Twitter page posted on Friday evening read: "It's true Nicky Byrne is our next Strictly Celebrity!"
Speaking about his involvement on BBC's The One Show on Friday night, Byrne said: "It feels strange. I mean I'm excited, scared to death. Most of my dance career has been spent sitting on a stool with Westlife."
When One Show presenter Alex Jones joked that Westlife's routines largely involved getting off those stools, Byrne replied: "We perfected that, I would say."
Of his new Strictly colleagues, he said: "We were over last week and we met all the contestants and we met all the wardrobe girls who had plenty of fun putting some stuff on us. They made us put on this sequinned diamante vest, with no material only diamantes and I thought, 'You're never going to see me in that'."
Digital Spy reports that Daybreak presenter Richard Arnold and Tracy Beaker star Dani Harmer will also be competing for the glitterball trophy with Byrne.
The new series of Strictly Come Dancing begins on BBC One on Saturday September 15 at 6:30pm.
