Tom Hardy and Michael Shannon have been cast in the forthcoming film The Long Red Road.
Variety reports that the actors will star in the adaptation of Brett C Leonard's play.
Hardy previously played the role of Sammy in a production of the play that was directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman and reprises the role for the film.
Sammy is an alcoholic whose young daughter hunts him down in the South Dakota backwater where he is slowly drinking himself to death.
Shannon will take on the role of Sammy's brother Bob.
No director is attached to The Long Red Road as yet, but there is speculation that Hoffman may become involved.
Hardy was most recently seen in The Dark Knight Rises, where he played the villain Bane.
Shannon was nominated for a Best Supporting Oscar for his critically acclaimed role in 2008's Revolutionary Road alongside Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio.
