Russell Crowe is reportedly set to make his directorial debut on an upcoming Bill Hicks biopic.
In 2008, rumours circulated that Crowe was attached to play the late comedian in a film, although the project never progressed at the time.
It is now reported by Indiewire that the project has been revitalised, with Crowe attached to direct the movie.
The film's screenwriter Mark Staufer said: "It is a huge role for someone made all the more special - or downright scary - by the fact the director is an Oscar-winning actor like Russell".
The biopic is said to begin shooting in 2013, while casting for the lead roles is currently underway.
Bill Hicks rose to fame in the 1980s and 1990s with his brand of cynical humour. He died in 1994, aged 32.
