Fans have waited a long time – but Stephen King has finally completed the follow-up to The Shining.

As well as being a hugely popular horror story, The Shining was also made into a chilling movie by legendary director Stanley Kubrick, and starred Jack Nicholson in possibly his greatest role.

Stephen King had announced the book’s possibility back in 2009, but it wasn’t made official until last weekend when he read an excerpt during a university awards ceremony in the US.

The sequel to The Shining is called Dr. Sleep and features psychic kiddie Danny (aka ‘Doc’) Torrance 30 years after the end of the original novel.

Danny is now a hospice worker who uses his powers to help ill patients to pass away without pain. That is, until he runs into a gang of wandering psychic vampires who feed on people's energy.
