Actor Hugh Jackman has revealed that waiting tables when he was younger prevented him from being arrogant.

Jackman, who didn’t start his career until he was 30, believes it stopped him being egotistical.

Speaking to Contact Music, Jackman said: "I think it probably helped getting my first movie job when I was 30. By then you're pretty much established as an a**hole or not.

"I'd waited enough tables by that point to appreciate what I was given."

The 42-year-old is also kept grounded by his 15-year-old marriage to Deborra-Lee Furness.

"I have a great marriage and I'm forever grateful for that. I'm really lucky I met her before any of this happened, because I think it's really hard to meet someone once you're famous," he said.

"In the long term things have worked out pretty well."
