Singer George Michael has been released from prison after serving four weeks of an eight week sentence for drugs offences.

Digital Spy reports that Michael was jailed after crashing his Range Rover into a shop front while under the influence of cannabis. He was jailed on September 14 at London’s Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court for that offence and for possessing two cannabis joints.

The singer had crashed his car in Snappy Snaps in Hampsted. He carried out his sentence in Suffolk’s Highpoint Prison after been downgraded to a category D prisoner.

The 47-year-old is reported to have returned to his home following his release.

The singer released a statement earlier this month saying he was not getting any special treatment while in jail saying "I have been treated with kindness by fellow inmates and prison staff alike."
