The internationally renowned special effects consultant Colum Slevin is to appear at a special Industrial Light and Magic Day for 14 to 18-year-olds at the Irish Film Institute in June.

Slevin is Head of Talent at Lucasfilm's special effects subsidiary Industrial Light and Magic (ILM), which has worked on major films and franchises including the 'Star Wars', 'Pirates of the Caribbean' and 'Indiana Jones' series.

The day will start with a screening of 'Master and Commander', the high seas adventure story based on the novels of Patrick O’Brian and starring Russell Crowe.

Colum Slevin will then talk to participants in the workshop about how the range of special effects in 'Master and Commander' were created by the ILM team.

The ILM Day for 14 to 18-year-olds will take place on 25 June from 10.30am to 4pm at the IFI in Dublin.
