Tom Waits will play two Irish dates in Dublin's Phoenix Park this July, according to a report from Hot Press.

The legendary American songwriter is reported to be playing on 30 to 31 July in a specially designed marquee in the Phoenix Park.  The shows will be promoted by Aiken Promotions.

These will be Waits' first Irish shows in 21 years. He last played Dublin in 1987, when he performed at the Olympia Theatre.

Earlier this week, Waits announced details of his 'Glitter and Doom' US tour in a bizarre press conference, snippets of which can be heard here.

During that press conference the Californian confirmed that he would appear onstage in Dublin.

Ticket details for the shows have not yet been announced.
