Snow Patrol star Tom Simpson will not face court for possession of cocaine following his arrest before the Oxegen festival last July.

The keyboard player and friend Colin Kennedy, both 35, were accused of possessing the Class A drug in Glasgow in June 2006.

Simpson was detained as he attempted to board a plane for Ireland to play a show at the two-day festival.

The band were then forced to play their set on the Main Stage without him, however he was freed in time to re-join the band in time for Scotland's T In The Park festival the following day.

Both Simpson and his friend were expected to face Glasgow Sheriff Court on Tuesday but the procurator fiscal office said proceedings were no longer appropriate due to information received from Strathclyde Police.
