'Ros na Rún' star Gavin O'Fearraigh and professional dance partner Dearbhla Lennon were last night named the winners of 'Celebrity Jigs 'n' Reels'.

O'Fearraigh and Lennon had been the judges' and bookies' favourites since the beginning of the series.

Commenting, O'Fearraigh, who was representing the charity Debra Ireland, said: "It was absolutely fantastic to take part, one hell of an experience. I am really pleased, especially for the charity, it's raised awareness and much needed funds."

He continued: "The support from family and people around the country has been amazing - it'll be weird not to be dancing next week. I'd just like to say 'thanks' to everyone who voted for me."

'Fair City' star Gerard Byrne and dance partner Paula Goulding were the runners-up while tenor Peter Corry and dance partner Nicola Byrne were third.

On last night's show the winning couple of the Eurovision Dance Contest was announced with Mick Donegan and Nicola Byrne set to represent Ireland in the final at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 1 September.
