It has been announced that Cate Blanchett and her husband, writer Andrew Upton, are to become the new artistic directors at the Sydney Theatre Company.
The Oscar-winning Australian actress has had an involvement with the theatre since starting her acting career there 13 years ago.
The director of the STC's Wharf Revue, Jonathan Biggins, said that it was a "bold choice" but one that would be likely to bring in new audiences.
"I think to have a playwright and an actor jointly running a theatre company is not a bad idea," he said.
Talking to the Sydney Morning Herald newspaper, Blanchett praised the quality of the work at the STC, saying that she and her husband were looking forward to "deepening, extending and consolidating that achievement."
