President Mary McAleese was among those paying tribute to RTÉ broadcaster Marian Finucane, when her long-running radio show ended this morning.
Finucane has been one of the country's leading broadcasters for over 20 years. She will be moving to a new weekend slot on RTÉ Radio and Ryan Tubridy will be taking up the vacant morning slot.
Speaking on the final Marian Finucane show, President McAleese congratulated her on her distinguished career, describing her as the country's "top female broadcaster who was possessed with the wonderful gift of empathetic broadcasting."
Today Marian Finucane received an honorary degree from NUI Galway.
Other recipients included the South African politician Cyril Ramaphosa, Belfast priest Fr Alex Reid who played a key role in the peace process, Austrian author George Clare and former Galway football star Sean Purcell.
