'24' star Kiefer Sutherland is to play the lead role in a new thriller called 'The Sentinel'.
Variety reports that the film is based on the novel by former Secret Service agent Gerald Petievich and tells the story of a Secret Service agent who is having an affair with the wife of the President of the United States.
When a colleague is murdered, Sutherland's character becomes a suspect and finds himself dragged in to a possible plot to kill the President.
Shooting on the film is due to begin in Toronto in May.
The new series of '24' returns to Irish screens later this year.
Sutherland was last seen on Irish cinema screens in 'Taking Lives'.
