When former Maze inmate and hunger striker Laurence McKeown approached Les Blair about directing a film about the hunger strikers, Blair knew it would not be easy. While much of his television career has included stints in comedy, Blair's experience of drama, documentaries and topical short-films was invaluable in tackling this project.
Laurence McKeown lasted 70 days on hunger strike before his mother took him off the protest. Now a community development worker, he wanted to tell the story of the men who chose such drastic action for the cause they believed in. Sinéad Gleeson talks to Les Blair and Laurence McKeown about 'H3'.
H3 is on nationwide release from Friday 28 September.
