Tom Murphy's plays such as A Whistle in the Dark, Conversations on a Homecoming, The Gigli Concert, Bailegangaire and The House have been performed all over the world to critical acclaim. At the end of 2017, President Michael D Higgins made the Tuam-born playwright a Saoi of Aosdána, its highest award.

To celebrate this landmark event and to mark the publication of a new book on the playwright, RTÉ Radio One's Arena will host a programme dedicated to his work at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin on February 1st.

Presenter Sean Rocks will be joined by Nicholas Grene (Professor of English Literature at the School of English at TCD and the author of new book The Theatre of Tom Murphy Playwright Adventurer), Garry Hynes (Druid Theatre), Chris Morash (Seamus Heaney Professor of Irish Writing at the School of English at TCD) and actors Joan SheehyJane Brennan and Denis Conway to discuss and perform from the plays of Tom Murphy.

Tickets for Arena’s Tom Murphy Special are now available at the Abbey box office. The event will be broadcast live on RTÉ Radio One.
