FILM: SCREAM

The post-modern slasher franchise gets a somewhat inevitable reboot, via the directing duo (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) responsible for one of our favourite horror movies of recent years, Ready Or Not. A cast of bright young things - many of whom, its fair to assume, won't survive the 114 minute running-time - are joined by original stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette. TV: THE NORTH WATER

A superb Colin Farrell gives a larger than life turn in this gripping BBC drama, filmed on location in the Artic and screening on RTÉ 2 on Thursday nights - you stream the entire series now via RTÉ Player.

VISUAL ART: TURNER & PLACE

Every January, the National Gallery of Ireland displays its collection of watercolours by J.M. Turner, and this year's outing, Turner & Place: Landscapes in Light and Detail, includes 19 rare drawings of Ireland from 1698 by the artist Francis Place - 2022 is the 50th anniversary of the Gallery's acquisition of these works, which show early views of cities such as Dublin, Drogheda, Kilkenny and Waterford. OPERA: BAJAZET

Irish National Opera's first production of 2022 brings the work of Vivaldi back to the Irish stage - Bajazet is a pasticcio, literally a pastiche, an high-octane opera created out of pre-existing music, with a cast that features Irish mezzo-soprano Niamh O'Sullivan and Italian baritone Gianluca Margheri. A nationwide tour through January includes dates in Navan, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Maynooth and Dún  Laoghaire, before a trip to the Royal Opera House in London.
