It wasn't mine. In fact I’d never lit that candle before that night. It was my Mum’s. She’d been diagnosed with cancer. I don’t think I knew it was cancer at the start. But in 1989, no-one said that word. She was sick for months. There was only the three of us, her and me and my Dad.
