We asked Sophie for her choice cultural picks...

FILM

Hereditary. Horror is my favourite genre. At Christmas, when everyone else is doing a Christmas movie marathon, I do my traditional horror movie spree. I love the epic bonkers-ness of Hereditary starring Toni Collette. So much so I named a section of my new book, Corpsing, in homage to it.

MUSIC

The music that's been keeping me going the last year is CMAT – I adore the storytelling in her songs and the incredibly catchy tunes. Denise Chaila has the same talent for an addictive hook, her song Chaila has been playing on a loop in my mind for months now!

BOOK

I’ve just finished the forthcoming Line by Niall Bourke and I absolutely loved it. I read it in one day. And I have three children under seven. In fact, I hope they’re all okay! Line is dystopian and hilarious and smart as hell. It's out in April - run don’t walk to grab it.

THEATRE

I loved the Abbey’s Dear Ireland last year and found it brilliantly funny, moving and provocative, not to mention inventive.

TV

I re-watched all of Six Feet Under in lockdown one and it was still as fantastic as ever. In terms of new stuff, I’m in a constant hunt for something to match Succession. It’s been a tough 18 months since I finished it. I think I Google 'Succession Season 3 launch date’ every day.

GIG

I bought tickets to the Pillow Queens November 2021 gig, which I am hoping will take place. The last gig I went to pre-pandemic was Stars in the Workman’s, it was joyful! I was massively pregnant so everyone in the crowd gave me a huge space to dance my little face off. Not sure if this counts but for the last year the podcast I co-host, the Creep Dive has put on a live show every Thursday for our nearest and dearest patrons. We usually have about two to three hundred come along and it is so much fun.

ART

My favourite artist at the moment is Claire Henderson. I treated myself to a piece by her for my birthday last year and it gives me so much pleasure.

RADIO/PODCAST

I am listening to the BBC’s Battersea Poltergeist podcast at the moment and it is so creepy. I also listen to Louise McSharry on 2FM every single weekend – her show is the perfect mix of fun and insightful.

TECH

YouTube is my main jam in terms of apps. I’m very random on there. I follow loads of people who do book videos, I’m addicted to videos doing breakdowns of Broadway shows, singing teachers critiquing popstar’s performances and there’s very moreish celebrity gossip videos.
