When I think back to the summer of 2015 and my last visit to Brian Friel in Greencastle, my clearest memory is of him showing me the Anthony Palliser portrait that now hangs over the entrance to the Brian Friel Theatre at Queen's University, Belfast, where I work as a drama lecturer.

"The Abbey has one, the Gate has one, the Lyric has one, so I think you should have one too."

And I was cast back to that convivial evening six years before, when a proud assembly of academics and artists had gathered to formally name the theatre in his honour...
