The 2017 season at the Irish Museum of Modern Art kicked off in considerable style with a pair of outstanding exhibitions, still showing in their Kilmainham halls; As Above, So Below: Portals, Visions, Spirits & Mystics, a major international group exhibition examining the role of spirituality in art, alongside Institutional Ghost, from Brazilian hot ticket Jac Leirner.

Still to come in 2017 are exhibitions from Vancouver School stalwart Rodney Graham and oft-neglected Irish-Scots still-life and landscape artist William Crozier, as well as a major career retrospective from seminal Donegal-born filmmaker Vivienne Dick and the first major Irish solo show from photographer Nan Goldin. Also on display, and absolutely essential: The Freud Project, an long-term loan of 50 works by Lucian Freud, one of the great figurative painters of the 20th-century.
