This week's RTÉ Radio 1 Album of the Week is Canvas, by Moya Brennan.

The ninth solo album from the First Lady of Celtic Music is a collection of original songs steeped in her Donegal roots and given an inspired contemporary twist courtesy of her twentysomething cowriters/composers, daughter Aisling and son Paul. Featuring a number of tunes sung as gaeilge, the record covers a broad canvas of powerful themes, from the child victims of global conflict to a moving tribute to her recently departed father, Leo. Brennan has been an innovator since Clannad brought a new spin on Irish traditional music to the world three decades ago - this is her strongest set in years. NB: The album title comes from Moya's rediscovery of her love for painting - she created the cover of Canvas herself.
