For the uninitiated, John Wick was the finest action movie of the decade, a simple but brutally effective tale of a recently widowed hitman prompted out of retirement when the slimy son of a Russian mobster (a) steals his car and (b) kills his dog. Bad move. It doesn't necessarily sound like the most inspired of prepositions, but like its eponymous protagonist, John Wick defied expectation at every turn, delivering one jaw-dropping action sequence after the next and providing the perpetually underappreciated Keanu Reeves with a long-overdue return to screen prominence.

And guess what? John Wick 2 is one of the rare sequels that does the original justice, expanding the universe of the original while upping the stakes accordingly. It's an absolute blast.

In this next chapter, legendary hit man John Wick is forced back out of retirement by a former associate plotting to seize control of a shadowy international assassins’ guild. Bound by a blood oath to help him, John travels to Rome where he squares off against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

Even better - Keanu gets to reunite with Morpheus, AKA his Matrix cohort Laurence Fishburne.
