Painting The Nation might have found its winner, but the entries kept flooding in for the Big Picture Competition with remarkable paintings being submitted by amateur artists from every corner of Ireland.
The call for Big Picture entries has now officially closed, and we'll be announcing the winner in the coming days. In the meantime, enjoy a selection of choice entries to date, with views of Derry, Killarney, Dublin and Limerick - it's been an absolute honour to share such lovely work with you. Keep painting!
I painted this as a gift for some friends from Derry. The bridge has become an iconic image of Derry. It represents the bridging of the 2 communities of the city which was constructed in 2011. The bridge has been embraced by everyone and has changed the way people perceive the city. I wanted to capture the warmth and vibrancy of the city through my warm colour choices - Stephen Shaw
I live in Killarney surrounded by wonderful scenery. It is no wonder I am compelled to paint. I like to leave the road behind and wander into the National Park where such magical scenes are found, and utter peace - Olivia O'Carra
Love doing urban landscapes and especially the bridges along the river Liffey - Keith Rowan Geoghegan
I painted this for my friend's 40th birthday. She asked me to paint a landscape that would match her pink themed apartment. I painted the Cherry Blossom trees in Herbert Park - Kieran Neary
This is my first landscape painting and is in acrylic, of the Shannon, in Limerick City, near where I work. I painted it specially, in memory of all the people who lost their lives in this area of the river - Bernie Geoghegan
