We think that this is a good, important change."
\n
The amendment to the rule comes a couple of years too late for Ireland's Under-17 team, who exited the 2018 European Championships when goalkeeper Jimmy Corcoran saw red for encroaching against the Netherlands in a penalty shootout at the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
", "pillar": "Sport", "thumbnail_refcode": "0014b567", "top_cat": null, "categories_list": ["Sport", "Soccer", "International Football Association Board", "Penalty"], "sub_type": "newsdocument", "url": "/sport/soccer/2020/0804/1157211-ifab-changes-penalty-rule/", "title": "IFAB changes penalty rule", "excerpt": "Penalties will no longer be automatically retaken if the goalkeeper infringes in the build-up to a spot-kick, under new law changes to be implemented when UEFA competitions resume this week.", "default_index_name": "Soccer", "promo_link": null, "date_created": "2020-08-04T09:18:47.67Z", "date_modified": "2020-08-04T09:51:25.263Z", "featured_video": null, "featured_audio": null, "icon": null, "year": null, "rating": null, "one_line_summary": null, "third_party_headline": null}
