Troy Parrott was prevented from leaving Tottenham on loan last month because of a UEFA ruling surrounding homegrown players.

Despite an injury to Harry Kane, Spurs manager Jose Mourinho is reluctant to give game time to his only fit out-and-out striker, with both club and player agreed a loan spell with Burnley, Charlton or a number of other clubs, the best plan in the short-term.

\n\n

Republic of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy would also have liked to see the teenage international move away from Tottenham in short-term for some game time, but that will not happen until next season now at the earliest.

\n\n

However, the plan ran aground due to a rule that could have damaged Spurs' Champions League hopes had they allowed Parrott leave.

\n\n

There were high hopes for his first-team prospects after Mourinho handed him a debut and the match ball in December against Burnley.

\n\n

However he has not featured in a Spurs squad since he was an unused sub in the 1-1 FA Cup draw away to Middlesbrough.

\n\n

For Dubliner Parrott to be considered 'homegrown' on Tottenham's B squad list he has to have completed two full years at the club. The Republic of Ireland international signed for Tottenham from Belvedere on his 16th birthday, 4 February 2018 - meaning he missed the transfer deadline by four days.

The Daily Telegraph report that Parrott would have had to complete another full 24-month spell at the club on his return from any loan to be considered homegrown in UEFA's eyes.
