The National Lottery has commented on criticism of its operations by Des Norton, a University College Dublin (UCD) Economist, at a conference in Kenmare.
He said the state was not getting value for money and accused the company of secrecy and deception about its operations. The Lottery denies this and says its operating expenses were similar to many United States (US) lotteries at the same stage of development.
