The first female bus driver for CIE hopes to blaze a trail for other women.
In 1980 Joan Doran became CIE's first woman bus driver and the first woman on scheduled run since before World War II.
Derek Davis chatted to Joan for RTÉ News about the job, her uniform and the reaction she has received from the male drivers. On the uniform, Derek Davis comments
Clearly CIE's faltering footsteps along the path of sexual equality have outpaced its awareness of high fashion. That uniform was never meant for the likes of Mrs Doran.
Derek joins Joan on board the bus where she talks about altering the traditionally male uniform, and her hope of blazing a trail for other women hoping for the opportunity to work as a bus driver.
An RTÉ News report broadcast on 2 May 1980.
