A young Kerry team are All Ireland Champions after victory over favourites Dublin.

The Sam Maguire Cup returns to the Kingdom of Kerry after they beat reigning champions Dublin in a final they dominated throughout. Dublin got the first score of the game with a point from Brian Mullins but were soon behind following a goal from John Egan. Kerry never looked back even after the loss of their captain Mickey O'Sullivan following an ugly tackle by Dublin defenders.

A second half goal from Ger O'Driscoll capped a fine victory and Kerry went on to finish winners by a seven point margin. This was Kerry's 23rd All Ireland Football title.
