Barry Sutton loses out to Martin Coll in Stage 6 of the Rás.

The FBD Milk Rás 1990 took place from 12 to 20 May 2015.

Stage 6 from Macroom in Cork to Clonmel in Tipperary was one of the most gruelling in the eight day event. After leaving Macroom, the 150 competitors faced a 14 mile climb. And that was just the start of it. Described by reporter Michael Ryan as

A long, hard and hot stage.

First over the line in Clonmel was Barry Sutton, a 19 year old from Clare Rebels. Sutton was relatively unknown and a surprise winner of the stage. On his win, Sutton commented

First major stage win and it's going to be one of many.

The red jersey for King of the Mountain was awarded to Raymond Power from Carrick-on-Suir’ . The leader on points at the end of the stage was Declan Lonergan from Waterford, who had already won several Irish Championships and is seen as having international potential.

It was later reported that Sutton was penalised 10 seconds for taking pace behind his team car. This left him in 9th place for the stage and Martin Coll was declared the winner.

The overall winner of the FBD Mild Rás 1990 was Ian Chivers.
