A world record attempt on Dublin's River Liffey for the largest plastic duck race does not go to plan.
Winner of the race’s mascot naming competition, six year old Catherine Doyle joins former Miss World Rosanna Davison to start the race. Catherine Doyle explains how she came up with the winning name Duckles,
He had these big weird goggles on him and he was a duck.
The Children’s Lifeline Challenge (CLC) group are the duck race organisers. Fundraiser Johann Fox of says their adopt a duck scheme has already raised a significant amount of money.
To clinch the new world record the ducks must travel a mile from Millennium Bridge. Sadly things do not go to plan, with many of the ducks heading in the wrong direction.
Some pupils from Our Lady of Victories in Ballymum are keenly watching the record breaking attempt. Andrew O’Neill declares it is,
Matthew Tunnicliffe, elaborates,
It’s going very, very bad, only two ducks have gone and the rest of the ducks are still there.
The world record is not meant to be, however over €100,000 is raised for a worthy cause.
