A Cork man sets a new record time for cycling from Cork to Dublin.
Brian Linehan covered the distance from the GPO in Cork to the GPO in Dublin at an average of more than 25 miles per hour. There were celebrations when he set a new time breaking the 39 year old record for cycling from Cork to Dublin.
From GPO to GPO, Cork to Dublin, it's 163 and a half miles.
Brian Linehan in a time of six hours, sixteen minutes and twenty five seconds took almost three quarters of an hour off the record that has stood since 1955.
Among the first to congratulate Brian Lineham was 74 year old Con Carr from Monasterevin who had set the previous record. He recalls that although he did not start the journey well he finished strongly when he set the record in October 1955.
The new record holder is also an accomplished tri-athlete but this was the first time he had attempted a feat like this.
