The RTÉ Newsroom take on The Southill Minstrels in a fund-raising football match in Limerick.

Southill Cadets Singing Group led by Father Joe Young entertained the crowd ahead of what would be Limerick's match of the century.

The soccer would see a team from the RTÉ Newsroom take on the Southill Minstrels in a fundraising match. Money raised would go towards a singing tour for the Southill Cadets of the United States.

RTÉ broadcaster Aonghus McAnally and his band also took to the stage for a rendition of the Creedance Clearwater Revival classic 'Proud Mary'.

The task of refereeing the game fell to RTÉ News reporter Colm Connolly. Minister for Justice Michael Noonan TD was also in attendance to lend his support and was the first to receive a red card.
