Connemara sean-nós singer Dara Bán Mac Donnchadha performs the song 'Róisín Dubh'.

Dara Bán Mac Donnchadha was born and raised in An Aird Thoir, Carna, in Connemara, County Galway. He was immersed in the song tradition of family and neighbours from an early age.

As well as being a talented traditional singer, Dara Bán Mac Donnchadha is also a song collector with as many as 170 songs in his repertoire. He never writes a song down, but memorises it by hearing it a couple of times.

Dara Bán Mac Donnchadha performs the 16th century Irish language song 'Róisín Dubh'. 'This song is attributed to Antoine Ó Raifteirí the poet, but may predate him.

'The Mountain Lark' was a traditional music, song and dance programme produced in conjunction with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. It was presented by singer Seosaimhín Ní Bheaglaoich from Cultúrlann na hÉireann, the Comhaltas headquarters in Monkstown, County Dublin. The first episode, a special on Galway musicians and dancers, was broadcast on 29 April 1985. 'The Mountain Lark' ran for four series, finishing on 23 December.
