The image of RTÉ musicians and singers will appear on over a million postage stamps.

Alan Smale, leader of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, says that the postage stamps will provide wide publicity for the orchestra.

Their music is heard around the world. Now their image travels the globe too.

An Post says the stamps are a fitting tribute to the RTÉ performing groups who perform at over two hundred events every year making a significant contribution to Irish cultural life.

Donal Connell, Chief Executive with An Post, says that stamps are still very much a part of a country's life. Each new issue of stamps has to be approved by the cabinet at top government level.

Sinéad White of RTÉ Cór na nÓg is delighted that the stamps will be seen throughout the world.

The stamps have a special importance for the RTÉ Concert and Symphony Orchestras which celebrate their 60th birthdays next year.

The RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra is one of five performing groups featured on over a million new postage stamps.
