Pub owners plans to provide child minding facilities on their premises meets with mixed reaction.
According to the Vintners Confederation of Ireland (VFI), crèches in pubs have worked overseas so why not in Ireland. John Mansworth of the VFI believes there is demand for this type innovation.
The plans is to make crèches available only in large pubs. However, this does not appease those who oppose the plans. Pat Carey TD believes that given the alcohol problem which exists in Ireland, publicans should not be providing additional opportunities for people to drink, especially in the presence of children. The proposals are not receiving much support from pub-goers.
There's too many kids in pubs as it is.
Kids in pubs? No.
Whether you are for or against the initiative, some pub crèches are already up and running in Carlow and Dublin.
John Manswroth points out,
One in Dublin became so successful that they had to close it temporarily because it became ultra successful.
