A one hundredth birthday party for Cavan woman Mary Ann Henthorn.

Centenarian Mary Ann Henthorn lives alone in Tullyco in County Cavan, can read without glasses and voted in the referendum on the eve of her 100th birthday.

Although Mary is a very independent woman, she is always glad to have some assistance from her neighbour Mary McAdams.

To mark the special occasion of Mary’s hundredth birthday, a party was organised in the Community Centre in Stradone and over 300 well wishers attended the celebration.

Mary Ann’s relations, friends, neighbours and supporters applauded as the local curate handed her a cheque from President Hillery.

Mary Ann attributes her longevity and good health to eating porridge for breakfast every morning and indulging in a drop of whiskey on special occasions.
