The counties of Galway, Mayo, Donegal and Sligo have banded together to promote the region as a holiday and tourist destination during a special holiday fair which is being held in Dublin's Shelbourne Hotel.

Dubliners and prospective holidaymakers to the west and north west of Ireland are invited to chat to tourist representatives and sample the delights of counties Galway, Mayo, Donegal, Sligo, and Leitrim.

As Joe Lally from Galway-Mayo tourism explains, their aim is to show people living in the capital what the west can offer, as it is an important market for them,

Last year my region Galway-Mayo earned £32 million, and the bulk of that money came from the Dublin area.

The current recession has affected everyone in the tourist industry, but Dan O’Neill hopes that a holiday fair like this one will bring revenue to the north west,

...by taking this on we are going to capture what we regard as the bigger slice of the home holiday market through the five counties of Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, Galway and Mayo.

And outside the Shelbourne, passersby were treated to musical entertainment by Dan The Street Singer, aka Basil Morahan, from Louisburgh.
