Dublin City Council is hopes to create a winter wonderland in Smithfield over the Christmas period.
Dublin City Council opened their Dublin 'City on Ice' special outdoor rink in Smithfield Square. The rink can accommodate up to two and a half thousand skaters, and it's the first time such an outdoor skating rink has been used in the city.

Declan MacCulloch of Dublin City Council describes the process of constructing the ice rink which took twelve days to complete at a cost of €750,000.
Ice skating marshals will be on-hand over the Christmas period to offer tips to skating novices.
Smithfield resident Cathy Sherwin says the ice rink is a big boost for the local community.
